One hundred years of the Garden-City Bouvier-Washer

In 2023, the Bouvier-Washer garden city will celebrate its centenary. An information panel is ready and will be placed at the entrance of the district so that the memory of the past of the district is preserved. The panel will be solemnly inaugurated by the mayor in the presence of the aldermen on Sunday 26 March at 11:30 am. Everyone is welcome ! Afterwards we raise a glass. Everyone brings something to drink or eat together. The residents of the neighborhood receive an invitation in their mailbox.

To allow inhabitants of Kraainem or other interested people to get to know our town better, what better than a walk in the northern part of Kraainem, which is its true birthplace? Starting from the Saint-Pancras church, we will first cross the "Haut/ Hoog-Kraainem" with the Jourdain estate, then descend to the valley of the Kleine Maelbeek and Woluwe ("Bas/Laag-Kraainem"). It has always been the nucleus of the village near the water and the ancient Roman road and that has been the most populated and lively area. The presence of a ford, a passageway for merchants and travelers, had a lot to do with it.

Using historical maps, old photos and postcards, we will bring the old rural village to life and study the stages of its urbanization.

2 hours walk in historic Kraainem

Please register at least 2 days before the tour by sending an email or SMS to your guide.
